10 Songs to Pump you up for your Nursing Shift

musicMusic can really change your mood, and sometimes your mood going into your shift isn’t the greatest. Well, if you have an iPod or music on your iPhone, you can set up a list of songs that can get your blood pumping.

I am rather old school, so I’m not up on the most current songs to get you going. However, I do know some from the 80s, 90s, and early millennium that are just as pulse pounding.

Don’t forget the slow, inspirational songs, too. You need to mix your kick ass feelings with the belief that you can get through your shift.

1. Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

Of course, no pump up playlist would be complete without this classic. It has a great beat and inspirational words. Punch the air while listening to it and pretend your Sylvester Stallone.

2. This is How We do it – Montell Jordan

You can imagine riding up to your facility pimped out and ready to go with this song. When you jam to this song, you can stride into the place, knowing you got this.

3. Lose Yourself – Eminem

From the movie 8 Mile, this song can remind you where you come from, but it can certainly get your heart pumping. Lose yourself in the music.

4. Stronger – Kanye West

No matter what you think about Kanye, he puts out some fantastic music. This is one of his better pump up songs. That which doesn’t kill us only makes us stronger.

5. The Way you Make Me Feel – Michael Jackson

Again, no matter how you feel about Michael Jackson, he’s put out a ton of great music, and this is one of his fast ones. It can really get you going, especially when you sing along.

6. I Believe I Can Fly – R. Kelly

A little sentimental, but that’s what we are looking for here. The sentimentality can remind you why you want to be a nurse and inspire you to spread your wings and fly for your patients.

7. Man in the Mirror – Michael Jackson

Jackson again, but this one is more inspirational. In fact, it is both a pump up song and a song that has a deep meaning. Let this one really sink in as you are looking at yourself in the rearview mirror.

8. I Got You (I Feel Good) – James Brown

Yes, it is a little cliché, and yes, you’ve heard it a million times. When it comes on, though, you can’t help but smile. It will infect your muscles and get you moving to the beat.

9. We Will Rock You – Queen

Go ahead and punch out the familiar rhythm on your steering wheel. No one will notice. You will rock your shift, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

10. Halo – Beyoncé

This is another inspirational song that can tug at your heart strings and remind you why you are a nurse. It is an almost spiritual song that really focuses on the angels among us who guide our way.

So, that’s ten songs, but there are much more. I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor and Survivor by Destiny’s Child are just two that spring to mind that would round out this list. We only have so much room, though. If you have a great pump up or inspirational song, list it in the comments for others to benefit from!
