NurceC: I feel your pain. One of my first “Code Saves” as a new nurse was on a guy with a room full of guards with him in the ICU at Salem Hospital. We brought him back from the dead, just so he could have a lengthy hospital stay, and then go back to death row. I don’t know what ever happened to him, but it took some of the “fun” out of it knowing that after we saved his life, the state was just going to kill him anyway. I’m not sure if they ever did, but it was frustrating.
I think if you work in a prison, you have to get past any preconceived notions about the quality of the people you are taking care of. I’ve never worked in a prison, but have seen a lot of prisoners, so this verse helps me:
Hebrews 13:3 ESV
Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.
