Like it or not, it is the wave of the future. It is not right or wrong and those who do not have BSN’s ought not be judged for that. I have a BSN. I am glad that I chose that path as there are job opportunities that present themselves that require a BSN.
I have also been in management. When hiring, it is secondary for me to look at ASN vs. BSN. My focus is on competence and experience; except in PH where a BSN and PH cert are required.
If we are looking at trends, then choosing a BSN is a wise choice. And btw, NP’s who are already licensed will not be required to add to their education…when/if that requirement changes it will be for those just entering into programs.
