I have been a nurse for 27 years. I feel that when employers see ADN instead of BSN, they ignore the value of experience. I find it rather offensive, as I have done 4 different specialties in that time, and feel that hands on experience is much more valuable than 2 more years of nursing school. I have 2 associate degrees, and feel that should not be dismissed, either. Mostly, I think that those that want to get a BSN and progress on to management, more power to them, but please don’t write off nurses that have valuable knowledge from the real world and not 2 years more of college. I am not against furthering one’s education voluntarily, but to require it of everyone is not necessary.
