I think its important to obtain a BSN especially for those of us with many more years to practice nursing. I’ve been nursing for 18 years and wish I had gone back when I was younger. I am currently 5 classes from my BSN and have every intention of continuing into a masters program. I plan to take the FNP route for my masters. I read in one post that they are requiring a PhD for NP’s but I believe its a DNP not a PhD. The DNP doesn’t have the research requirements that a PhD would have to complete. I do believe that with the continued nursing shortage that it will be hard to require or make the BSN the entry level for nurses but I do feel it’s necessary for professional development.
