I am an ADN-RN and plan to get my BSN and eventually my MSN because I would like to teach nursing one day. Though I could teach with only a BSN I genuinely enjoy learning and MSN is just a personal goal of mine. That being said, I don’t think it should be mandatory for anyone to have to go further in their education than they want to. Especially with it being as hard to get into programs and as expensive as it is. I live in a very rural area, and one of the few hospitals within driving distance of me (which is actually about 50 miles away) will not hire new nurses without at least a BSN, and they’re “strongly encouraging” current RNs to get their BSN. I currently work in LTC and love it. I’m an RN supervisor but I still get a lot of hands on with my residents, and for right now in my life I’m content with just my ADN because I LOVE my job. So, I want to get my BSN but I want to get it because I choose to, not because I have to.
