WOW, that’s a tough one. If you hated your job or managment or something, I would tell you to look for a new job STAT, but that is not the case. When I was burned out being an acute dialysis nurse- ie: long shifts, over-night and weekend call, complete unpredictable nature of the position, I finally said enough is enough. I can’t do this anymore, but I love it and can’t imagine doing anything else….so I went PRN/unscheduled hours. I found a part-time job working at a methadone clinic and THEN worked part-time in dialysis. I was able to pick and choose my dialysis hours, which meant no more working over your scheduled time (the perm. staff has to do that) and NO MORE call. I was extremely happy. Now I am doing Legal Nurse Consulting, which is another story…hope you find a way to manage and stay happy AND healthy!!
