I always tell new grads that there is a time and a place to cry. While in front of the family, hold it together, you still have a job to do. Once away from the family then it is ok to have a good cry, it is a good release. I have been called cold and heartless by several nurses that I work with because when someone does pass on my shift I do not get all emotional, like others have said, for most it truly is a blessing. Usually after I get all of the paperwork/notifications complete I take a little break and either go sit in my car or even just a quiet place and regroup.
