I live and work in northeast Alabama. It is nicknamed Meth Mountain. However, we see a little bit of everything. In the last month there have been positives for meth, cocaine, barbs, benzos, alcohol, marijuana, opioids, and (fill in the blank here)s. Heavy IV use is common and we had an infiltrated home IV come in the ER not long ago. Right now, I work in the lab until I finish my RN in May. All I do is stick all day long. I spend a lot of time in the ER and on OB. Sadly, those are the two places I find the most tracks.
It gets difficult, but I have to remind myself that sometimes good people make poor choices and don’t know how to stop. When compassion is running low, I hang onto every shred of it I can muster up and pray for more.
