Jason Hautala RN
While in the military every medical person is “doc” so I quickly gave up correcting people on this one. In the civilian world, I usually say, “Actually, my name is Jason and I’m one of the nurses here today” or something like that. If the person is in uniform and calls me “doc” I usually let it slide, even in my civilian hospital because that is just military culture. My brother is an ER doc that works in the same department with me, so some repeat patients get us confused, so I will always make sure to let them know I’m the nurse and not the doctor.
