Having worked in an assisted living environment where CNA’s and Med Tech introduced their selves as the “Nurse” on a regular basis. YES this is a big problem and needs to be reported. I can not tell you the number of times I fielded angry family members who spoke to the “Nurse” and were actually connected to the nurse, when they asked for the nurse and I was paged, who had no idea what was going on. It is a liability issue all around. One that CNA’s and Med Tech did not seem to understand. And when it came down to it, it was my license and butt on the line not theirs. Do you really think the state board is going to say, hey don’t worry about it, they claimed to be something they were not and it is not your fault. No they are going to want to know where the communication break down was and fault the nurse for not supervising the staff.
