I have been an LPN for 8 years. I sadly see the trend of LPNs diminishing. LPNs are harder working, better trained with hands on experience. While in nursing school, SPNs were doing hands on things in the clinical setting (inserting catheters, PICC line dressing changes) while Student RNs were not allowed to do any of these things. I’ve seen RNs on med carts and some scare me. The simplest assessment we can do is ask “How are you feeling today?”. We as students were always taught to “be clinically smart”. We are no different, just our training and what the state allows us to do. Underneath it all, we’re still nurses.
