I have been a MDS/Care plan Coordinator for 6 years. I’ve been in nursing for 27 years. I would not have missed being in “real nursing” for anything in the world. I loved hands on nursing and the many experiences of impacting peoples lives. Save the office job until you get old and your back hurts from years on your feet. You will be a resource person for other nurses in LTC because you have been there. I’ve never liked having a highly educated nurse who has never worked the floor tell me how to do it in less time. I believe long term care is a calling. It is not where old nurses go to sit on their bottom and collect a check. Some ER nurse may say ” you are not a real nurse because you work in LTC” They are wrong! There is never a dull moment.
