Welcome to the world of nursing! I’ve been an LPN for 22 years and worked as a GPN (Graduated Practical Nurse) until I took my boards. Back then, LPN’s were still in hospitals but generally they had been there for years. They weren’t hiring new LPN’s then, and still aren’t to my knowledge. I applied to 5 hospitals when I graduated and no one was interested. So, I’ve been in nursing homes ever since. Unfortunately, LPN’s can’t go far…we’re generally limited to nursing homes, doctor’s offices and home care. I hope this doesn’t sound rude but I wouldn’t wait for the hospital job to come along, it probably won’t. Get experience where you can, even if it’s a nursing home. If it doesn’t suit you, consider going back for your RN. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do 🙂
