I’m an LPN and I have many tattoos most of which are not visible while working. I’m also in school finishing up RN-ADN and I have to cover my wrist tattoo while at clinical. A few weeks ago at clinical I was assigned 2 patients both of whom had full sleeve tattoos. Apparently they had been judged earlier in the day or their stays because as soon as I walked in they both made it clear they were not drug seeking or criminals because of their ink. I smiled and let them know that I myself have many tattoos and that I’m not there to judge them just to take care of them and help them. They both smiled and thanked me and were less anxious the rest of my shift. I’m proud of my ink and proud to be a nurse. I’m all for tattoo acceptance in the workplace.
