I work on call and continuous care. I take my Ipad when I work 12 hr night shifts. Nobody cares. But my folks are usually old and don’t have an internet connection so I just read pre downloaded books. When I was at the hospital we weren’t even allowed to have cell phones UNLESS you were one particular PCA who stayed at the nurses station buying shoes on Zappos and booking gambling cruises. Management knew she’d play the race card – that’s all she ever fell back on when she messed up and she messed up a LOT. She, in fact, is the reason I don’t support Habitat for Humanity. A couple of years ago I saw the “hard working” new owner of a Habitat house. Guess who that was? So, to sum up, the policies I’ve worked with at local hospitals depend entirely on who is using the cell phone and/or electronic devices.
