While I was in school, I was working in LTC as a LPN. One of my residents cried when I graduated and left to go to work at the hospital. She was so sad that she wasn’t going to see me every day, and I was sad to have to make the transition and leave my LTC family. Then after about a year, this same resident was admitted into acute care for a SBO, she was a chronic constipation sufferer. She saw me walk into her room and her eyes lit up. She didn’t have any family in the area, and just the fact that I was her nurse again eased her mind. She grabbed my hand and we chatted for about 20 minutes, catching up. It was great to be able to renew the connection, and that she was just as happy to see me as I was to see her.
