I work for a small, county hospital and we recently changed to a new electronic charting system. As a general rule, change is bad, but this has been a nightmare. Things were looking pretty grim, until I bought stock in the company that makes the product. It is still frustrating that our work flow has been interrupted, but my mood has greatly increased now that I actually wish the company well, instead of wishing it would burn to the ground.

Does anyone work for a company in which they give stock options as part of the benefits plan? I think having employees have some ownership would help.

As an ED nurse, I think owning stock in the hospital system I work for would make me resent half of the patients who come through our doors. Each uninsured “dental pain” or any number of societal parasites we routinely see would be costing me money directly!
