Is it possible to have a nurse lic and be a felon?

Each state is its own entity, but the simple answer is NO. There may be some exceptions somewhere, but those are few and far between. I personally knew one nurse who lost her license because of felony charges, not drug related, and after years of effort, was able to get the Governor to not only pardon her, but expunge her record, and she was able to get her license back, but because of the several year break in service from nursing, she had a hard time finding a job and I lost contact with her before she ever worked as a nurse again.

Good luck, but if you have a felony on your record, talk with the state board of nursing first thing to see if they will even let you sit for the NCLEX test and even if they say yes, talk to some HR folks in local hospitals to see if they would ever hire someone with your record. Good luck.

Non felon nurses are having a hard time out here also. And because of a long ago past “history.” What they preach is not what they practice as far as addiction being a disease. And I’m now a nurse offering encouragement to people just like me.Just for today.

3 years ago I got a DUI and 2 felony hit and runs. No one was hurt thank God. I have since been to rehab, in AA, stayed sober and still cannot find a job. I am currently waiting tables. I feel so lost and look for any ideas to get back in the field. I miss nursing horribly. I was really good at it too. Now that I am sober, one day at a time, I am sure I would be even better but cannot get the past removed from hiring facilities. I have my RN license in Virginia but it just sits there. So sad. Any suggestions would be welcome. I am willing to do anything.
