It seems especially difficult for me to get a “new RN” position despite having excellent experience as a former LPN & while in the military. Yet I have seen numerous people get jobs with virtually only nursing school experience. I am in the over-50 age group. Is there something I can do to increase my chances of getting hired as an RN? This area of the country seems to be very youth oriented unfortunately but I have to remain living here.

Well I graduated at 47 and took a job at a LTC , not the job I wanted but ended up liking it. I worked there for three years. We then moved to CA and I applied at Nursefinders and got a job at a major hospital in the Infusion Clinic ( with zero IV experience)……good luck!

I was 53 when I graduated from nursing school and put in nearly a hundred applications it seemed. Lol. Key is, I believe, just be persistent and get your foot in the door somewhere. I was fortunate enough to be flexible so I was able to move to take my first job. Now that I’ve been a nurse for 2+ years, I work in an ICU and interviewed at a new hospital to start soon. Hang in there my friend.

I graduated at 57y/o and landed my first job a few weeks ago. Be persistant and willing to take what’s available to get your foot in the door. Good Luck to all.
