Hello fellow Mighty Nurses,
I will try to keep my story short. Basically, I would love so advice. I have graduated BSN program 2 years ago. Received my RN license and started looking for a job. Here is where it gets tricky. About seven months into active job search I found out I was pregnant, so subsequently my job search halted. I had a beautiful baby girl 8 months ago, and am so ready to work! The problem is….how to go about explaining potential employers why I have not worked in a hospital setting all that time? I do have a Per-diem RN job doing health fairs ( a lot patient education) and flu shots since graduating college and getting my license. I am quite nervous to start applying again in fear of not truly knowing how to explain my situation… How would you suggest I go about it?
Thanks in advance for any advice 🙂
Honesty is the best policy. You have some nursing experience, so highlight that. Admit you didn’t work full time because you wanted to spend time with you family, but now are ready to work full time and advance your career. It always helps if you take the initiative and complete some CME related to the job you are looking for (take ACLS, PALS, etc.) Good luck.
Thank you, Jason for the advice!
