Hi, I was wondering what sort of challenges nurses face when managing licenses in multiple states? I was thinking of starting an online business to help nurses manage their renewals and CEs when they hold multiple licenses, but am not sure if anyone would find it useful. Any feedback people would be willing to provide would be appreciated. For instance, do you have trouble remembering when to renew which state license when, or what the CE requirements for each state are? Thank you all so much!

I don’t think any state requires more than 30 hours/2years (at least KS, OK, TX, MO, NE don’t). I manage all my certification and license dates on a separate Google calendar. I make a repeating event for the certification/license along with any pertinent information and set it to remind me 2 months ahead of the expiration date. So far, it’s worked quite well for me.

I recently moved from Texas to Missouri (both are compact states). My current RN license is from Missouri and my TX license has been inactivated. I don’t have to renew my TX license or keep up with CE requirements.

I used to think that you could have several active licenses from different states, but I guess it doesn’t work that way.

A compact license allows you to go to any compact state and practice without obtaining a new license (however, if you move into the new state, you will have to change your address to reflect the new “home” state).

With single license states, you can have as many licenses as you wish to keep up with at the same time. I currently have 4 active single state licenses, 2 happen to be from compact states were I can only get a single state license (home state is not compact).
