Sunday night I was stuck with a dirty needle from a homeless IV drug user that came into my ER. Hepatitis C came back positive. I’m getting serial labs done every 6 weeks for a year to watch for conversion. There is only a 1.8% chance I’ll become reactive- but I’m still terrified. My boyfriend is an EMT\FF and super supportive but I’m afraid what will happen if I do test positive in the future. I feel so defeated. I need some words of encouragement from anyone out there who has gone through the same thing. 😢

Breathe. Worry won’t help, certainly not if you make yourself ill from stress. If your work has employee assistance counseling, take a few sessions. Just to vent all the anger and fear, if nothing else. Sending good vibes your way!

I’ve been struck with a used needle when i prepared a medication for my patient and to think more, he was confined in an isolation room.
He has a TB that’s for sure since most of the patients transferred there are PTB positive (still nervous about that). after that, ive thoroughly studied that particular patient’s chart and seen he has only COPD as clinical diagnosis.

I haven’t mind i’ve needle stick injury, but i mind boosting my immune system.. so i think that’s what you have to do. strengthen your body to combat setting of the illness
