Do you belong to a union, and if so, does it do you any good?

Yes! The acuity on my floor (Medicine) has gotten higher recently and the staffing has not been adequate enough to keep up with this change. It has led to nurses transferring to other units and an increasing number of call outs due to burn out. We have a meeting coming up with our union rep to address this change in patient acuity and ensure that we have enough nurses/PCAs to provide safe care! Other units have done this in the past and all their needs were met. I’ve worked in a hospital without a union and I’m much happier now knowing nurses have the support (fair pay, etc) that they should have.
