Are you a Nurse, a Hypochondriac or both? Do you have crazy funny stories that make all your non nursing friends cringe? Have you ever wanted to perform and tell your story on stage?
I have produced a new storytelling show called: “Nurses and Hypochondriacs” and I am seeking submissions. The “Pilot” show is set to premiere October 18-20 in Los Angeles, theater TBD.
The objective of the show is to empower nurses and hypochondriacs to tell their stories on stage… and go beyond the bedside!
Writing guidelines: 1000-1200 word essay with a beginning middle and end with no meandering trails. Stories should be between 5-7 minutes long. The essays will go through a committee, once chosen you will be mentored into preparing your story for the stage by professional story tellers and made HIPPA friendly.
Who we are: Producer: Ersilia Pompilio RN, MSN, PNP: I have been a nurse for 17 years, and a storyteller for the last 4. I have performed at the Moth, The Lexington (True tales of tragedy), and Mouth Pants. With the help of various artistic professionals I was able to write, produce, perform and direct” The Nurse and The Hypochondriacs” a one woman show.
Director: Howard Booth RN, MSN with a BA in Theater.
Please submit stories to : firstname.lastname@example.org deadline September 30, 2014

As the moderator of the forums, I have been asked to follow certain rules, one of which is to make sure nobody is pimping their own products on the forums … I’m not even allowed to pimp my own book here, but this post intrigues me and I want to check it out again when I’m not so tired … so I’m not going to delete it … yet 😉 but to everyone else, pimp your goods on your profile and then become active enough in the forums and articles that people go and look at your profile. Leaving this here is the exception and not the rule.
What type of stories are you looking for? Specific encounters, our stories in our careers, best day/worst day, etc?August 25, 2014 at 5:15 PM #15917
Thanks so much for the information!!! Yes…the stories we are looking for is all of the above… or just anything that has to do with being a nurse and a hypochondriac…. Sorry, I’m new to this site and didn’t know their were rules…… but thanks again!!August 25, 2014 at 11:43 PM #15920

I was such a hypochondriac in nursing school. During the cardiac section I had chest pain nearly every day. During renal, I was sure I had a kidney stone. Was also positive I had an immaculate STD. Even though I HATE OB, and can’t even spell “OB” I was relieved to be going into that chapter because I could have a short break from all of the heinous diseases I was coming down with. Being a male nursing student, I was safe … or so I thought. I had the cramps so bad and nearly started wearing a pad because I was sure I was on the verge of menstruating. That was the worst term ever … not just because I was in OB, but hypochondriac men should not have to experience such things. I was never so happy to move on into dermatology were I could have something pleasant, like Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy.)
Good luck with your project 🙂
