Hello everyone. I graduated over a year ago, but just recently passed the NCLEX-RN exam. I’m currently looking for a nursing job, but am unsure if I should include my previous non-medical jobs on my resume? Back story: I am currently not working as my partner got a promotion within his company 2 months ago and we moved to a different state. I quit my previous job (I was a PCT in an ER) prior to the move, and now that I’ve passed NCLEX, I’m looking for nursing jobs. My previous job, where I worked for nearly 10 years, was my first and only job (so far) in the medical field. I did include my nursing school clinical experience, so that is some additional experience. To “fill the gaps”, should I include my previous jobs, or are they not necessary because they aren’t relevant to what I’m seeking?
Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance. 🙂
Most places like the last 7 years. If you worked someplace non-medical during the time you worked in the medical field, I could see leaving it out, but if you worked only non-medical for a length of time, you should list the jobs you had to fill in gaps. If you get an interview, have a good reason why you worked outiside of the medical field for a while. They will ask about gaps in your resume, so if you were working and didn’t list it, that will look bad. List everything, but focus on your medical.
Thanks so much, Jason!
