I think I have complained about this before, but ‘service animals’ in my ER are ticking me off. Washington state provides licenses and certificates for service animals, but they are NOT required. We just have to take the patient’s word for it that it is a service animal.

I believe that if a service animal is actually more than a pet, it should be certified by the state and have to wear a state issued tag in order to be allowed into hospitals and grocery stores, etc. Thankfully our hospital has changed its policy on which types of animals can be ‘service animals’ so the guy with the psuedo-seizures can no longer bring in his 15 foot snake.

Does anyone work in a state in which service animals have to be registered?
