Is it just a symptom of a greater disease or is it a highly selfish act? I deal with the real thing, the attention seekers, the “I need a warm place to spend the night”, and all kinds of other “suicidal” patients. My question revolves around those that are serious in their desire to end their own life.

It is everything and nothing depending on who is presenting. That’s just it though, the terrible reality is that it doesn’t matter what the “real” situation is. It’s our job to figure it out, comfort them, and keep them alive. I wish there were more resources to help those who an apartment would lower their care cost or those who need a friend. So many simple things could solve all these issues. Best thing is try not to judge. No one goes to the ER who is “right”
