We all know that people are judgmental in one way or another, but how do you fellow nurses feel about visibly exposed tattoos in the workplace? Should they be covered up to seem more professional, or is it something that should not matter because they don’t change the knowledge and competence of the nurse possessing them?
There have been a few articles about tattoos written by Mighty Nurses. You can find some of them here: http://www.mightynurse.com/?s=tattoo
Thank You. These were a great read. I appreciate your time replying.
On a personal level, I don’t mind tattoos. Actually, I don’t even mind them on a professional level — as long as they’re not offensive and tasteful, of course. That being said, you’d almost have to evaluate every single nurse individually to determine who needs to cover up and who doesn’t, which is probably why most places restrict them from being visible at all. I guess you could also clump piercings and hair color into this as well. Some of the best nurses I’ve worked with and respected were covered in tattoos. 🙂
