I am in my first contract as a travel nurse. If you have any personal experience with a company that you can recommend and why, send me a private note. What I want to know is what should I be asking and looking for in my contract? I want to learn from mistakes that others have made. My contract is for ICU and that is what I do. I agreed to float as part of the contract because I really wanted the contract. It is only 72 miles from home so I work my three and go home. I have worked 6 shifts out of orientation and only one of those has been in ICU due to census…..LESSON LEARNED. What else do I need to look for when discussing contracts that I might overlook?

Well first welcome to the world of travel. I recently travel for the last three years I truly loved it. I recent took a job at home in Pittsburgh because sometimes the down time in the travel world is so slow moving in my specialty med/surg , but you shouldn’t have that problem. One of the first things that you’ll have to understand it that you will most often get pulled to other units, because they look at us travel nurse as per diem nursing. You can asked when interviewed on the phone interview if and how often they pull their travel nurses, but I often have learned that they will tell you not often, but their not all ways truthful. Also never ever agree to anything that you aren’t welling to do. I did that on my second contract to work a few 11 am to 11 pm instead of my 7 pm to 7 am and out of 13 week contract I would 3, 7 pm to 7 am. LESSON LEARNED… good luck don’t hesitate to email if you have anymore questions.
