Hi Fellow Nurses, I’m thinking of doing Travel Nursing. Can anyone tell me their experience both good and bad! There seems to be a lot of openings on the job boards for an amazing pay for 13 weeks. How true is it, is the housing nice and free which is what all the ads say. Do they reimburse plane fare, car renting? When do you get paid so you can buy your food etc.
. Thank you for any advice, stories you can tell me. Cathy RN

Cathy4: I’m sure others will be able to help you, but I have never done travel nursing. We get adds all of the time faxed to us though, typically from CA, offering huge sums of money and travel expenses and armed transportation from your motel to the hospital campus, etc. Most of these are crossing a picket line, and my dad would kill me if I did that, so haven’t looked into them very much. Good luck. Travel nursing sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe someday?

As an LPN I had the opportunity to do some travel nursing in nursing facilities. Both of my experiences were great. The pay was the same as an LPN, but I didn’t have to pay rent, utilities, etc. I have some friends who did traveling for years and enjoyed it. I’m sure with every assignment there are pros and cons. I worked for Core Medical Group and have nothing but good things to say. Good Luck!!
