    Does your pharmacy/facility make you count and store tramadol as a controlled substance?


    DEA just made tramadol a schedule IV drug … even though it is the most abused drug by health care workers and many others. All of our drugs come from a machine, so my days of counting are pretty much over, but I don’t think it is a bad idea making people count tramadol still, as it has a pretty high abuse rate.

    When I was working in various nursing homes, we never had to count Tramadol that I remember. It was just kept with the regular or PRN meds, not in the lockbox. But it’s been a number of years ago…
