    I’m in the process of trying to change jobs and have an offer but they asked if they could call my current employer even though I didn’t put her as a reference. What can she say I’ve only been there for a few months have no corrective action against me and the new employer knows the reason for my recent absence. I gave 3 references and don’t want the reason I don’t get the job be because my current manager says something bad.


    Give them the number to your HR department. The only thing they can ask and the only thing the HR department can say is to confirm the dates of employment and are you eligible to be rehired at that facility. Many times the new place will try to get more information out of them, and some bad HR people will give it, but they aren’t supposed to.

    As part of most applications they have you list your supervisor and give a number. It is not unreasonable for them to call, but they shouldn’t sabotage your efforts.
