    When to start applying

Hi all! I am graduating May 8th from my RN program and im wondering when i should start applying for jobs. I know some people start applying before they graduate and some don’t apply till after they pass there boards. Ready to hear some opinions and when you got your first job!

Most places keep applications on file for future job opening for one year. If you will be ready to start a new job within that time, I would apply early, it shows interest in working there and some hospitals have even gone so far as to hire nursing students during their last term and start their “orientation” then, so when they do have their license, they are closer to being able to hit the floor running.

I worked as an aide while I was in nursing school so management knew me. I was able to secure a position as a resident, pending the passing of boards, before I graduated.

I started applying for jobs in late December and then was hired during the first week of April.
