I am a 47 year old RN student and will graduate in May. I am going to purchase a new stethoscope soon and would like advice on the best brand(s) for the greatest sound quality. My current stethoscope is a Littmann Lightweight II SE, I feel that there are probably better ones out there. Any suggestions?

I got myself a Littman Cardiology III for nursing school, which I chose because it had a double lumen. We have bog standard $5 stethoscopes on the unit and some of the staff say those are better after they have borrowed mine. There are stethoscopes that electronically amplify (indeed they can make recordings) if you’re a bit HOH, but I have no personal experience of those. Good luck with finishing school by the way – I’m headed back to school this Fall to get my ADN.

Hello. I’ve been a nurse for 17 years now and I’m on my 3rd stethoscope. My first and third stethoscopes are the Littman Master Cardiology. I hear the best with that one. The second stethoscope I had was a Cardiology III and I didn’t hear very well with it. I always heard extraneous noises. I use my Master Cardiology all the time. That will be the one I stick with. My first one lasted 8 years before finally cracking. Hope this helps.
