I graduated exactly a year ago and I am soooo tired of being told I can not be hired without at least one year minimum “Staff Nursing”. I am working for a healthcare agency doing vaccines and wellness clinics, but no other nursing jobs consider that, or homecare as experience… They have all told me. I am very very frustrated. I do not get paid enough and it is per diem…and student loans are due!! Help please

It goes in cycles … way back when I started, one of the larger hospitals laid off over 200 RNs the month I graduated, so there was a lot of competition for very few jobs. I even tried to volunteer in some hospitals, but they weren’t set up to let volunteers provide any patient care, and I didn’t want to put on the candy striper skirt and hand out magazines. Ended up doing home health for a bit and signed up for an ICU residency program … paid out of pocket for it, but they liked me and I got a tele job at that hospital when it was over. Take ACLS, PALS, TNCC, etc … get as much additional training and experience as you can. Good luck.
