What Holiday do you enjoy/not enjoy working? And why?

I like to keep my regular rotation, as I know what that is going to be for years to come. Having that rotation, I know I work every Thursday evening, so I have gotten used to having Thanksgiving on a different day. Similar with Christmas. If it falls on my day to work, I’ll work without complaint, but if it is my day off, I want it off, especially since I just worked Thanksgiving for them. If someone WANTS to work the holiday that I’m scheduled to work, I am more than happy to give it to them, but I don’t want to pick up an extra day on a scheduled day off to do it. Yes, change is bad … just let me work my schedule, it is easier on me that way.

I don’t mind working Christmas Day, I work nights my family usually celebrates Christmas Eve, and by the time the Christmas Day festivities are over I’m ready to go to work. Being former military, I hate working any military holiday.

I don’t mind working my holidays as I know that is what is expected and everyone else is in the same boat as I am. What I do mind is that my company will not take in to consideration a holiday/weekend combo. For example, this Memorial Day I had to work the weekend and the holiday. I think I should have been given at least Sat or Sun off prior to Memorial Day so that I could enjoy at least part of the holiday instead of a three day work weekend and being forced to not participate in family events. To make matters worse, my co-worker (who works opposite weekends and holidays) has a bad habit of asking for the Fridays off before the weekend/holiday combo giving them a 4 day weekend and leaving me totally screwed. It was the worst last Thanksgiving when she had Thanksgiving Day off and the following weekend and was given the Friday in between off as well because she requested it. And because Monday was her usual day off, THEY GAVE THAT TO HER TOO! I had to work 5 days in a row starting with Thanksgiving Day! I used to work for a company that did take into consideration holiday/weekend combos so that no one person was forced to work an entire three day holiday weekend (or 5 like I had to last Thanksgiving). I think I need to go back there. =)
