Side Jobs for Nurses

When nurses work “only” three days per week, it can be tempting to try to fill those other days with other work. Who doesn’t like more money?

If you are looking to supplement your income with other jobs, you can possibly pick up some money if you think creatively. Of course, it will probably be difficult and tiring, so trying to take some time for yourself.

Remember: you need a weekend, too. That said, here are three ways you can negotiate some side jobs.

Babysitting

If you like kids, you could possibly work as a part time babysitter. Your schedule may vary, though, so this may be difficult to swing.

However, if you have a set schedule, working out a plan for babysitting can work out. Even if you don’t have a set schedule, websites like care.com can match you up with people who need per diem work.

Don’t overlook those who need people to watch their dogs, either. You can pet sit just as easily as baby sit. This could be a fun, easy, and possibly lucrative way to spend your days off.

Uber

Uber is a crowd sourced taxi service, and anyone can become a driver. If you have a car that is less than ten years old, a valid driver’s license, and insurance, you can start driving people around.

The great thing about Uber is that you can do it whenever you please. Some people make a great deal of money driving for people.

This is probably the best side job for nurses because it offers flexibility, potential relaxation, and money. Just be careful when picking people up because there have been incidences of crime associated with Uber fares.

Private duty

Private duty nursing is a possibility for nurses who are looking to make some money. You can easily go into people’s homes, help them with their meds or other medical needs, and make extra cash.

This is likely something that would go through a home health association, and that is a great resource. However, some people are looking for private duty nurses outside of that paradigm, particularly through Craiglist.

Either way, getting involved in part time home health nursing or taking on a private duty nursing patient is a great way to make more money as a nurse. These are both jobs that you can do on the side that can be potentially lucrative jobs on your days off.
